2022 prompt\/hour 11: \u201cIn memory of Helen\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I walk there, to see her – taking a folding chair<\/span><\/p>\n

I cannot go in\u00a0 <\/span>– between covid and cancer treatment it isn\u2019t safe <\/span><\/p>\n

I sit beneath her verandah – she on her own chair, well above <\/span><\/p>\n

Telling her stories of the very odd and strange things that happen at work<\/span><\/p>\n

Telling them as well as I can from a \u2018safe\u2019 distance <\/span><\/p>\n

Telling the stories with the uglier parts buffed out<\/span><\/p>\n

Telling them with a pleasing light shone on the more amusing elements<\/span><\/p>\n

Knowing it\u2019s worth it \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Her face scrunching in joy <\/span><\/p>\n

Her shoulders beginning to hunch and shake \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Her head then releasing back as her joy is shared with the sky<\/span><\/p>\n

There were fewer of those days<\/span><\/p>\n

As time wore you down – but I appreciated them all\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Though I do recall that one with the most fondness <\/span><\/p>\n

The clear, true sound in your voice at the absurdity of life<\/span><\/p>\n

I shall not forget it<\/span><\/p>\n

I miss that sound <\/span><\/p>\n

I miss you<\/span><\/p>\n
