{"id":116064,"date":"2022-06-25T20:33:49","date_gmt":"2022-06-26T00:33:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=116064"},"modified":"2022-07-04T20:11:09","modified_gmt":"2022-07-05T00:11:09","slug":"diaspora-hour-twelve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/diaspora-hour-twelve\/","title":{"rendered":"Diaspora, Hour Twelve"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Diaspora<\/p>\n<p>Our family is a Viking horde,<br \/>\ndescended from hardy Swedes and Norwegians<br \/>\namid a colorful range of other backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>Fifty to one hundred people we consider family<br \/>\nhave gathered together around a pool every 4th of July<br \/>\nthirty-six of the last thirty-seven years, excluding 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Coming together every year and reacquainting ourselves<br \/>\nwith each other&#8217;s lives is a renewal to me, a touchstone<br \/>\nfor my at times lonely heart to caress.<\/p>\n<p>Some years I haven&#8217;t personally attended, some years others could not,<br \/>\nbut when we did, the connection sustained.<br \/>\nLosing even the option to gather in 2020 was devastating.<\/p>\n<p>Our family&#8217;s personal diaspora from its beginnings in Indiana,<br \/>\nour travels to far corners of the world continues in each passing year,<br \/>\nbut always we return, strengthened, and look forward to the future together.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Diaspora Our family is a Viking horde, descended from hardy Swedes and Norwegians amid a colorful range of other backgrounds.
