I try to picture your face to the point that I’m straining<\/p>\n

But it’s a blur shot through with skin tone fractals<\/p>\n

My mind’s eye is stuck on other things<\/p>\n

That were in the peripheral<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Victims from car crashes<\/p>\n

often mention that<\/p>\n

they only remember<\/p>\n

the red digits on the dashboard<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The brain trying<\/p>\n

to create a selective memory<\/p>\n

so that what’s left<\/p>\n

isn’t too traumatic<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I know it’s trying to spare me<\/p>\n

from holding your pain too long<\/p>\n

but sometimes<\/p>\n

it would be nice to see your face<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

even if it hurts.<\/p>\n
