We can leave
\nAnytime
\nAfter we smile
\nAnd dance
\nThe sun and moon
\nAre of no consequence
\nIndoors climbing
\nTowards a destination
\nA place never been
\nNever seen
\nAnd if they smile
\nWe smile back
\nAnd if they wave
\nWe wave back
\nWe turn trumpets
\nInto words
\nAnd words
\nInto flutes
\nThey are wind instruments
\nAnd won\u2019t mind
\nThe transpositioning
\nWe hold our hands out
\nAnd dance with strangers
\nEach to our own rhythm
\nThey are strangers to us
\nNot to others
\nWe were invited
\nSomeone invited us
\nTo join in the jamboree
\nI only know one dance
\nAnd one move within that dance
\nBut you know more
\nYou know how to sway to multibeats
\nThese strangers can enjoy watching
\nYou find the right flow
\nTime no longer matters
\nAfter a drink or two
\nI need those drinks
\nTo calm down
\nTo be involved
\nTo lower my inhibitions
\nBut it doesn\u2019t help me
\nFind the dance floor
\nIt doesn\u2019t help me
\nFind the beat
\nIt may even make my dancing worse
\nYou\u2019ve seen me dance
\nYou\u2019ve instructed me
\nIn a fine technique
\nI cannot understand
\nHow to move a figure eight
\nI move my feet back and forth
\nPretending to follow you
\nBut I am off by the time
\nIt takes to figure out what you did.
\nWhenever you\u2019re ready we can go
\nWhenever you think we\u2019ve been here long enough
\nThey smile at us
\nWe smile back
\nThey wave at us
\nWe wave back
\nWe weave our way across
\nThe dance floor
\nWe hear applause
\nFor someone else
\nNot for us
\nI don\u2019t know if I really want to leave
