{"id":116985,"date":"2022-06-25T22:28:39","date_gmt":"2022-06-26T02:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=116985"},"modified":"2022-06-25T22:28:39","modified_gmt":"2022-06-26T02:28:39","slug":"hour-7-visual-park-bench-title-coupled-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/hour-7-visual-park-bench-title-coupled-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Hour 7- visual park bench &#8211; title \u201cCoupled Up\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Coupled Up<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s what I call it.<br \/>\nhaving a life partner\u2026<br \/>\nsomeone with whom to walk<br \/>\nIn the world.<\/p>\n<p>It seems to be everywhere I look<br \/>\nexcept in my house.<br \/>\nI\u2019ve tried a few times &#8211;<br \/>\nIt never took.<\/p>\n<p>There are other ironies here,<br \/>\nother realities that live along with<br \/>\nmy sense of missing out and that<br \/>\nis at times a gratefulness and a<br \/>\nkind of knowing.<\/p>\n<p>For you see I am a therapist<br \/>\nworking on occasion with couples<br \/>\nand what I often note<br \/>\nis that some partners should<br \/>\nnot be coupled up.<\/p>\n<p>It is a gift you see<br \/>\nand many waste it;<br \/>\nhave little or no skill<br \/>\nto enjoy it.<\/p>\n<p>Not knowing how to accept difference<br \/>\nin another, their words are sharp,<br \/>\ndegrading, negative and hurtful<br \/>\nreflecting their own self-hatred.<\/p>\n<p>Having forgotten how to laugh<br \/>\nor play, they seem lost<br \/>\nyet you can detect a desperate<br \/>\ndesire to mend what is broken.<\/p>\n<p>An irony too is that despite<br \/>\nor perhaps because of my<br \/>\nsolitary walk in this world,<br \/>\nI have both the desire<br \/>\nand the skill set to help,<br \/>\nif only they would allow it.<\/p>\n<p>Ego can be a rough mistress though<br \/>\nand the echo of \u201cI\u2019m right\u201d<br \/>\nresonates as loudly in the therapist\u2019s<br \/>\noffice as it does in divorce court<br \/>\nwhere unfortunately it will have the<br \/>\nlast word before it dies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Coupled Up That\u2019s what I call it. having a life partner\u2026 someone with whom to walk In the world.
