{"id":117298,"date":"2022-06-25T22:50:07","date_gmt":"2022-06-26T02:50:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=117298"},"modified":"2022-06-25T22:53:43","modified_gmt":"2022-06-26T02:53:43","slug":"troublemaker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/troublemaker\/","title":{"rendered":"Prompt 14, Troublemaker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>D______ was glamorous, P____ was silly<br \/>\nand one was my mother,<br \/>\nwho hovered between<br \/>\nD&#8217;s edginess and<br \/>\nP&#8217;s harmlessness.<\/p>\n<p>But, she was still<br \/>\nthe one<br \/>\nwho spent a year<br \/>\nat a school<br \/>\nfor <em>wayward<\/em> girls.<\/p>\n<p>I was in my teens<br \/>\nand not on any troublemaking path<br \/>\nwhen she told me the story of her youth.<\/p>\n<p>She had been truant one day<br \/>\npast the limit,<br \/>\nand even though she hadn&#8217;t done anything<br \/>\nthat she was caught for, a marked vehicle<br \/>\nwas waiting for her<br \/>\nwhen she got home<br \/>\nthat night.<\/p>\n<p>My mother cried and begged<br \/>\nmy grandmother, a stoic woman<br \/>\nfrom rural Missouri,<br \/>\nwho told her<br \/>\nshe had to follow the guards<br \/>\nif she wanted to ever be allowed<br \/>\nto come home.<\/p>\n<p>Only a year or two<br \/>\nafter she was released,<br \/>\nmy mother, after graduation,<br \/>\nfound a part-time job<br \/>\nat a photography lab;<br \/>\nit was during this time,<br \/>\nshe began dating my father.<\/p>\n<p>She probably thought, as<br \/>\ndid he,<br \/>\nshe&#8217;d be his golden bird<br \/>\nbefore she later grasped<br \/>\nthere&#8217;s nothing golden<br \/>\nin containment.<br \/>\nEven if it was of her own volition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>D______ was glamorous, P____ was silly and one was my mother, who hovered between D&#8217;s edginess and P&#8217;s harmlessness.
