Promises<\/p>\n
Was Robert Frost the first one to say,
\n\u201cBut I have promises to keep and
\nmiles to go before I sleep\u2026\u201d ?<\/p>\n
Maybe so but he certainly wasn\u2019t the last.<\/p>\n
\u201c Promises to keep\u2026\u201d – could that phrase\/concept
\n – so heavy laden with the potential
\nto instill guilt and shame
\nshould said promise not be kept –
\npossibly be a product of the modern age?<\/p>\n
Might you lay all or most of mankind\u2018s
\ncurrent conundrums\/stressors at its feet?
\nI dare say you could, however it would do you
\nno good because we are stuck
\nwith our burdens nonetheless. <\/p>\n
What we can do though is begin to
\nslowly unburden ourselves
\nfrom the yoke of unmet promises
\nwith one simple act. <\/p>\n
Do not make them – not one – ever again –
\nsimply do not make promises. Do not enter into
\nthis potential set-up for failure in the first place.<\/p>\n
Life is too unpredictable and it seems
\nbetter by far to refuse to make promises
\nrather than risk burdening ourselves with the
\npotential of carrying any more
\nemotional weight than we already have. <\/p>\n
This is a lifestyle change that one
\ncan implement fairly easily.<\/p>\n
We couch it in love (the truth by the way);
\nexplain to our loved ones that rather
\nthan potentially risk our relationship we have
\ndecided to eliminate promise making
\n(to be differentiated from commitment)
\nfrom our lives. <\/p>\n
