{"id":117908,"date":"2022-06-25T23:45:28","date_gmt":"2022-06-26T03:45:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=117908"},"modified":"2022-07-22T21:14:01","modified_gmt":"2022-07-23T01:14:01","slug":"the-lights-are-on-despite-the-dark-poem-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/the-lights-are-on-despite-the-dark-poem-3\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;The lights are on&#8230;despite the dark&#8221; POEM 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is the dead of night,<br \/>\ni sit in awe of the noises<br \/>\nstill being made.<br \/>\nNo filters on the reverberations.<br \/>\nExhaust echoing off of now cool black top<\/p>\n<p>Tires spinning too fast as breaks pump.<br \/>\nThe chirp of nightingales<br \/>\nplaying holler back.<br \/>\nEven the dew seems to whistle<br \/>\nas it drips from top to bottom leaf.<\/p>\n<p>The spark of my lighter<br \/>\ntriggers tracer memories<br \/>\nbon fire dances, in the moonlit dark.<\/p>\n<p>Before i let myself question<br \/>\nthe bickering laughter of siblings<br \/>\nawake long after the sun has left,<br \/>\ni remind myself the neighbor is terminal.<br \/>\nWhile i am busying myself, trying to hush my memories<br \/>\nand drift to sleep&#8230;<br \/>\nthey are trying to squeeze as many memories as will fit with in a second.<\/p>\n<p>I whisper prayers from the shadows of my porch&#8230;<br \/>\n&#8220;If it be to your purpose Lord,<br \/>\nmight you grant the unspoken whishes<br \/>\nhidden in the laughter coming from these wounded hearts&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is the dead of night, i sit in awe of the noises still being made.
