For this prompt I want you to write about food. Literary writing with a theme has become much more popular lately and there are a surprising number of literary journals devoted to publishing creative work about food. You can tackle this theme from any angle. You can write about how much you love or hate a certain kind of food, you can rant about gluten intolerance, you can write about your favorite meal, or what food you loved as a child. The particulars are all up to you.

\nfood?
\nI hear the new pizza place is good.\u201d<\/p>\n

America loves pizza.
\nIt\u2019s a fact.
\nCheck it out if you want.
\nI don\u2019t really care.<\/p>\n

What I do care about are
\nscabbing,
\noozing cow tits
\nthat are being sucked
\nuntil they bleed.<\/p>\n

I care about
\na \u201cfood\u201d supply that is
\ndegrading to the point
\nwhere Surgeon
\nGeneral Warnings
\nare required on candy
\nfor children.<\/p>\n

I care that we throw away
\nmore food than we ingest\u2014
\nthat the sheer
\nvolume of waste from this
\ngreedy
\nself-centered
\nignorant
\npuss bucket of a society
\nis enough to feed tens of millions daily.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t care about the new Taco Hell breakfast
\ndoodad, or the original McShit now for a dollar!<\/em><\/p>\n

I do care about
\ncorporations that sabotage
\nthe livelihood of
\nemployees by imprisoning
\nthem in a labor force
\nthat looks more like
\nindentured servitude
\nthan anything else.<\/p>\n

I do care about
\nconniving business tactics
\nsuch as
\nscheduling thirty nine hours per week
\nto maim workers
\ncandidacy for health benefits,
\novertime\u2014
\nand in effect to keep them
\ndependent
\nbut in a constant state of
\nsocial immobility.<\/p>\n

I do care that
\nwages are so staggeringly low
\nthat they are debilitating.<\/p>\n

I do care that the people who feed us are
\nseverely underpaid
\ndeserving
\nand angry
\nand it is our duty to help.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t care that I can get bloated in fifteen minutes
\nor less\u2014or my money back.<\/p>\n

I care that gluttony grips
\nthe fat,
\ntriple chinned throats
\nof people who claim
\nto follow God,
\nto follow Jesus–
\nto follow whatever
\nreligious deity they want–
\nas they watch reruns of
\ntheir favorite sitcoms and
\nsink deeper into couches\u2014
\neyes glazed over,
\npure lethargy as starving children
\nbeg for money during the commercials.<\/p>\n

I care that
\ndiabetes runs rampant
\nbecause a corrupted \u201cfood\u201d
\nindustry discovered greater profits
\nfrom using addictive syrup.<\/p>\n

I do care that
\nfarmers are whipped
\ninto obedience by
\nthreat of lawsuits from
\nmassive
\ninternational
\npirate
\nconglomerates
\nthat hire swarms of legal representation until the
\nbeaten down farmer whimpers into submission, again.
