When I looked into my crystal ball,<\/p>\n
casting a line out ahead of me<\/p>\n
into the rippling waters of the future,<\/p>\n
I saw a dense fog, locked boxes\u2014<\/p>\n
inaccessible things<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
There was little solace in these visions<\/p>\n
no receipts nor guarantees<\/p>\n
that things will turn out positively\u2014<\/p>\n
best to assume Death,<\/p>\n
says the winding of a busy mind<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In the evening, I watch the birds on the line<\/p>\n
keeping an ear to the tunes<\/p>\n
shuffling through headphones<\/p>\n
for some good news\u2014a paltry portent,<\/p>\n
or a teensy, wee glimpse behind the veil<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
On the occasion, I am permitted a peek<\/p>\n
just an inch in front of my nose<\/p>\n
I can just make out the shape of things<\/p>\n
And the faintest waft of freesia and jasmine<\/p>\n
through fastened keyholes<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve grown more comfortable<\/p>\n
with leaving well enough alone<\/p>\n
until there\u2019s a tug on the line<\/p>\n
prompting me to again ask:<\/p>\n
