on the roof rack<\/p>\n
but there it was<\/p>\n
in line at the Jack-in-the-Box drive-thru<\/p>\n
It had a modest fishing hook dangling<\/p>\n
tied to the tip of the rod by nylon line<\/p>\n
a short piece that did not extend<\/p>\n
to the reel<\/p>\n
The car was not old\/not new<\/p>\n
the vapor clouding out the driver’s window<\/p>\n
messing with my stereotype<\/p>\n
Who was he trying to kid?<\/p>\n
Not my question to ask<\/p>\n
Each person on Maui<\/p>\n
each car<\/p>\n
each fishing pole<\/p>\n
engaged in reinvention<\/p>\n
with a pile of used-to-be’s<\/p>\n
crowding the rear-view mirror<\/p>\n
