{"id":118958,"date":"2022-06-26T01:28:17","date_gmt":"2022-06-26T05:28:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=118958"},"modified":"2022-06-29T11:36:47","modified_gmt":"2022-06-29T15:36:47","slug":"hour-seventeen-king-or-beast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/hour-seventeen-king-or-beast\/","title":{"rendered":"Hour Seventeen &#8211; King or Beast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hour Seventeen \u2013 \u201cWrite a poem that involves a mythical monster in some capacity, whether it\u2019s as a side character, a prop, a villain or even the protagonist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u>Ravana \u2013 King or Beast?<\/u><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Was he the King among kings?<\/p>\n<p>Carrying his ten heads and immortality<\/p>\n<p>with grace that challenged the Gods.<\/p>\n<p>Or was he the demon <em>Rakshasa<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>Abductor of the fair Sita,<\/p>\n<p>the wife of Rama, the Lord among Lords.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>His intellect unbound, his logic sound<\/p>\n<p>and wisdom profound.<\/p>\n<p>But was he friend or foe?<\/p>\n<p>Was he the lecherous other?<\/p>\n<p>Or the loyal brother?<\/p>\n<p>Disguised as a doe.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The answer, my friend, it all depends<\/p>\n<p>on your own geography.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Folk from the North<\/p>\n<p>believe him to be the devil incarnate.<\/p>\n<p>They burn him on Diwali<\/p>\n<p>to end all evil on earth.<\/p>\n<p>Folk from the South<\/p>\n<p>Worship him.
