{"id":118975,"date":"2022-06-26T01:32:47","date_gmt":"2022-06-26T05:32:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=118975"},"modified":"2022-06-26T01:32:47","modified_gmt":"2022-06-26T05:32:47","slug":"ssssnake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/ssssnake\/","title":{"rendered":"Ssssnake!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sssnake!<\/p>\n<p>Hissing, spitting, rearing his hoods,<br \/>\nThe five-headed snake held sway<br \/>\nOver the Yamuna River long ago<br \/>\nSo the legends of Krishna say.<\/p>\n<p>Poisoning the waters, killing all<br \/>\nWho chanced to come that way,<br \/>\nMaking life a misery for<br \/>\nThe cowherds who had long lived there.<\/p>\n<p>Krishna, the young boy, climbed up a tree<br \/>\nWhose branches stretched over the water<br \/>\nAnd, avoiding the forked tongues,<br \/>\non that snake&#8217;s head,<br \/>\nHe jumped, shouting with laughter.<\/p>\n<p>The people watched aghast as he danced<br \/>\nFirst on one head, then another.<br \/>\nThe snake had by then, used up his venom in vain,<br \/>\nAnd to the river ran Krishna&#8217;s mother.<\/p>\n<p>The diluted poison was carried downstream<br \/>\nAnd the snake fled away to the sea.<br \/>\nWhen his friends asked why Krishna<br \/>\nHad let the monster go free,<\/p>\n<p>He replied, &#8220;Well, he didn&#8217;t mean any harm<br \/>\nHe was just following his destiny.<br \/>\nIf he&#8217;d been deliberately vicious,<br \/>\nIt&#8217;d have been another story.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Men lived much closer to nature then<br \/>\nAnd all life was highly valued,<br \/>\nNow we&#8217;re focussed only on our goals<br \/>\nAbout interdependent life, we&#8217;ve no clue!<\/p>\n<p>The world depends on symbiosis<br \/>\nAll earthly life is interlinked<br \/>\nThe disappearance of a single species<br \/>\nCould lead to a domino effect&#8230;<br \/>\nAnd all life become extinct!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sssnake!
