{"id":119042,"date":"2022-06-26T01:40:23","date_gmt":"2022-06-26T05:40:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=119042"},"modified":"2022-06-26T01:40:23","modified_gmt":"2022-06-26T05:40:23","slug":"hour-17-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/hour-17-16\/","title":{"rendered":"Hour 17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I arrive and no one moves,<br \/>\nsweat drips down their necks.<br \/>\nI am the heat, hitting people<br \/>\nlike a wall<br \/>\nand they are frozen,<br \/>\nThe room is a loud orange,<br \/>\nuncomfortable chairs lounge around<br \/>\nand on the glass table stands a cold beverage<br \/>\nslippery because of the condensed glass.<br \/>\nI try to make myself small,<br \/>\nstill as a mouse teeming on the edge of death.<br \/>\nIf only I could move through bodies of water,<br \/>\nmaybe then I could find the quiet<br \/>\nI so utterly long for.<br \/>\nExhaustion faces me like a stern sphinx,<br \/>\ntired of fighting and eating<br \/>\nshe gives me the answers I have been looking for.<br \/>\n<em>You have turned day and night into night and day.<\/em><br \/>\nEven at her best, her tongue twists riddles.<br \/>\nThe dried-out red sand on the floor<br \/>\nlies dormant but I know<br \/>\nthat the moment I leave,<br \/>\nit will come to life, swarm around<br \/>\nlike an ant-nest about to be stamped upon.<br \/>\nI fear the ground.<br \/>\nMaybe if I let the day birth night,<br \/>\ninstead of the night birth death,<br \/>\nmy temperatures will lower<br \/>\nand maybe, I will be able to rest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I arrive and no one moves, sweat drips down their necks.
