The City<\/p>\n
Dead? No, a city always seems alive
\nIt throbs with life from eight to five.<\/p>\n
Later, it puts on neon glitter
\nAnd parties till midnight or later.<\/p>\n
It sends long roads snaking out
\nTo lasso fields, make houses sprout.<\/p>\n
Its towers stretch their arms up high
\nAnd breathe out smog into the sky.<\/p>\n
Underground, its arteries transport merchandise,
\nMen and material and vital supplies.<\/p>\n
Often, it flushes its wastes to the sea
\nThrough a river, although recently <\/p>\n
It’s woken to responsibility, has grown,
\nAnd recycles, reuses, that which was thrown
\nAway.<\/p>\n
The city can never go back to its past
\nBecome again the village that it was.<\/p>\n
Ever growing, consuming, evolving,
\nMaybe in time, cleverly solving<\/p>\n
The problem of fitting in the human race
\nInto a habitat that creates enough space<\/p>\n
For the flora and fauna that make the Earth whole
