{"id":119926,"date":"2022-06-26T03:51:54","date_gmt":"2022-06-26T07:51:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=119926"},"modified":"2022-06-26T03:51:54","modified_gmt":"2022-06-26T07:51:54","slug":"choosing-life-hour-fourteen-a-hall-of-mirrors-haynaku","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/choosing-life-hour-fourteen-a-hall-of-mirrors-haynaku\/","title":{"rendered":"Choosing Life (Hour Fourteen, A Hall of Mirrors Hay(na)ku)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Choosing Life<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today,<\/p>\n<p>my fate<\/p>\n<p>has been decided<\/p>\n<p>by a panel<\/p>\n<p>of lifelong<\/p>\n<p>politicians,<\/p>\n<p>solemnly<\/p>\n<p>sworn to<\/p>\n<p>uphold and interpret<\/p>\n<p>the laws of<\/p>\n<p>this land,<\/p>\n<p>put<\/p>\n<p>in<\/p>\n<p>place by<\/p>\n<p>our Founding Fathers.<\/p>\n<p>We gave them<\/p>\n<p>their power,<\/p>\n<p>but<\/p>\n<p>who<\/p>\n<p>gave them<\/p>\n<p>permission to designate<\/p>\n<p>my decision, determining<\/p>\n<p>the path<\/p>\n<p>which<\/p>\n<p>I<\/p>\n<p>must choose?<\/p>\n<p>They cannot comprehend<\/p>\n<p>the damage done<\/p>\n<p>by choosing<\/p>\n<p>Life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>****A hay(na)ku is a three line poem where the first line consists of one word, the second line has two, and the third line is composed of three words. A reverse hay(na)ku is three lines composed in the opposite fashion, of three words, then two, and one word for the final line. In the 2019 Poetry Marathon, I created the &#8220;Mirror hay(na)ku&#8221; by combining a hay(na)ku with a reverse hay(na)ku.
