{"id":120251,"date":"2022-06-26T04:13:55","date_gmt":"2022-06-26T08:13:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=120251"},"modified":"2022-06-26T04:13:55","modified_gmt":"2022-06-26T08:13:55","slug":"taro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/taro\/","title":{"rendered":"Taro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Riding horseback<br \/>\nracing through abandoned towns<br \/>\na rat named Taro in my pocket,<\/p>\n<p>how am I going to protect<br \/>\nthis furry friend,<br \/>\nwhen a sorcerer is summoning me<br \/>\nintent on taking him away?<\/p>\n<p>I will power through,<br \/>\nI will protect my friend and my magic<\/p>\n<p>I approach the castle and<br \/>\nfeel a shudder in my pocket<br \/>\nTaro has sensed our arrival<br \/>\nhe burrows deeper into the fabric<\/p>\n<p>the menacing Montez departs his throne,<br \/>\nspeaks to me,<br \/>\ndemands I hand over Taro<br \/>\nor face his militia alone<\/p>\n<p>I choose to fight<\/p>\n<p>flashes of gold paint the night sky<br \/>\nas mage after mage attempts to<br \/>\nstall my advance<\/p>\n<p>I am spurred on by the warm<br \/>\nbundle burrowed next to my chest<br \/>\nI fight with all my strength<\/p>\n<p>Riding home,<br \/>\nbeaten, bruised, angry,<br \/>\nI feel Taro shift<\/p>\n<p>I reflect on a battle hard won<br \/>\nand a sorcerer destroyed<br \/>\nnever threaten an animal friend of mine<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Riding horseback racing through abandoned towns a rat named Taro in my pocket, how am I going to protect this furry friend, when a sorcerer is summoning me intent on taking him away?
