Great Flood of 2011\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some things we cannot know.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some know.\u00a0 Some think they know.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some things are better unknown.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mid-afternoon, under a summer sky\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

where three states shake hands<\/span><\/p>\n

under the watchful eye of Chief War Eagle<\/span><\/p>\n

miles from the Muddy Missouri’s banks,<\/span><\/p>\n

you pull off the highway<\/span><\/p>\n

to investigate flooded fields of maize.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Snowmelt in the northern Rockies <\/span><\/p>\n

& <\/span>rain – a year\u2019s worth in three weeks-<\/span><\/p>\n

swallow its way across the Plains<\/span><\/p>\n

engorge reservoirs and dams<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Here we stand, gone a decade\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sand bagging & prayers were not enough.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Baseball fields along Nebraska banks<\/span><\/p>\n

abandoned – soil too toxic for children to play ball.<\/span><\/p>\n

Once-tree lined bike paths from South Dakota\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

to Iowa reminiscent of an apocalyptic film<\/span><\/p>\n
