{"id":12735,"date":"2015-06-14T02:11:06","date_gmt":"2015-06-14T06:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=12735"},"modified":"2015-07-05T23:18:20","modified_gmt":"2015-07-06T03:18:20","slug":"fire-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2015\/06\/fire-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire Safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><u>Fire Safety<\/u><\/p>\n<p>What one thing would I save<\/p>\n<p>If my home, my house<\/p>\n<p>Was completely engulfed in flames?<\/p>\n<p>I want to say my Memaw\u2019s Bible:<\/p>\n<p>Her copy of King James.<\/p>\n<p>But her voice<\/p>\n<p>It calls to me,<\/p>\n<p>And the modesty, that I keep quietly locked inside of me,<\/p>\n<p>Keeps telling me,<\/p>\n<p>This<\/p>\n<p>That I\u2019m telling you,<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>Compelling me,<\/p>\n<p>To tell the truth,<\/p>\n<p>And so<\/p>\n<p>Honestly,<\/p>\n<p>Depending inherently on the severity,<\/p>\n<p>Or if I<\/p>\n<p>Would even feel inclined\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Go running back inside<\/p>\n<p>My fiery house for anything\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Because<\/p>\n<p>If I went in there and died,<\/p>\n<p>Then where would I be?<\/p>\n<p>I hear dead is not as glamorous as they make it seem<\/p>\n<p>On the radio box or on<\/p>\n<p>The movie screen.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah,<\/p>\n<p>There were all those nice people<\/p>\n<p>Who attended my wake<\/p>\n<p>And the others who came<\/p>\n<p>And said goodbye to me, at my grave<\/p>\n<p>And yeah,<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s that pretty rock that they had carved<\/p>\n<p>For all to see,<\/p>\n<p>Telling the world of my vanity<\/p>\n<p>And the bane of being a sex-symbol at the young age of 23.<\/p>\n<p>But then, after that,<\/p>\n<p>When they\u2019re all gone I\u2019ll be<\/p>\n<p>Left to spend the rest of time alone<\/p>\n<p>Reciting lines<\/p>\n<p>From my long forgotten eulogy.<\/p>\n<p>So If I<\/p>\n<p>Am to be honest,<\/p>\n<p>And in lieu of sounding vain,<\/p>\n<p>I would<\/p>\n<p>Accept the things in life<\/p>\n<p>I cannot change,<\/p>\n<p>Letting what burns<\/p>\n<p>Burn,<\/p>\n<p>And keeping only<\/p>\n<p>That which may or may not<\/p>\n<p>Remain.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fire Safety What one thing would I save If my home, my house Was completely engulfed in flames?
