Poetry…always part of my teaching.<\/p>\n
observing my students, I recognize the poetry within each one<\/p>\n
their potential is craving to be put on paper<\/p>\n
they all have capabilities, they all have something to say<\/p>\n
it’s up to me to encourage, help them find their voice<\/p>\n
our project is to make a class poetry quilt<\/p>\n
they get divided into six groups, each with four children<\/p>\n
each group gets to design a quilt block using fabric,<\/p>\n
then all blocks are sewn together.<\/p>\n
complicated! complicated! complicated!<\/p>\n
ever so slowly they each write and edit each other’s poem<\/p>\n
they’re all masterpieces!<\/p>\n
put the cloth through the printer<\/p>\n
cut out the blocks<\/p>\n
their work is done, now mine begins<\/p>\n
I sew all the blocks together at home<\/p>\n
Voila…prize winning project is done!<\/p>\n
