There I sit in the middle of the room<\/p>\n
remember Montauk two weeks ago.<\/p>\n
Quiet and empty like this room<\/p>\n
just me, my towel, sunscreen, and my chair.<\/p>\n
Then company arrived of an unexpected kind.<\/p>\n
Seeing water shooting up from the wakes<\/p>\n
spurts of ocean spray above the waves,<\/p>\n
there were no boats or barges.<\/p>\n
The Atlantic Ocean, a giant fish tank<\/p>\n
for the largest mammals of the sea.<\/p>\n
This school of whales became my company.<\/p>\n
Whales washed up dead along Long Island beach shores in recent days,<\/p>\n
struck by boats or confused by sounds<\/p>\n
from windmills placed inside their homes.<\/p>\n
Not here by Ocean Vista\u2019s desolate beach<\/p>\n
seagulls and plovers dip in and out of tides<\/p>\n
as spouts like sprinklers spray up like fire hoses.<\/p>\n
Huge fins appear like they\u2019re dancing on shimmery waves with the reflective surface of sunlight.<\/p>\n
This welcome calmness of an empty space reminisces me back to a Montauk moment.<\/p>\n
