The Nest<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Is it really any different<\/p>\n
than swallows making a nest?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
the huge life altering decisions<\/p>\n
made in a heartbeat<\/p>\n
as well as the insignificant ones<\/p>\n
that we pondered forever<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
straw intertwined in the unique<\/p>\n
way that reflects the two of us<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
our life is mostly made of<\/p>\n
little things like tea in the morning<\/p>\n
stereotypical me reading the paper<\/p>\n
stereotypical her reading a book<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
with a backdrop of hummingbirds<\/p>\n
buzzing to and from the feeders,<\/p>\n
neighbors mowing their lawns<\/p>\n
sprinklers on Sunday and Thursday<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Some encounters we\u2019ve had<\/p>\n
bring floods of imagery<\/p>\n
no one else would know<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
just saying someone\u2019s name<\/p>\n
might bring a laugh or shudder<\/p>\n
about someone once so big<\/p>\n
that no one else would know<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
the nest stood strong<\/p>\n
through wind and storm<\/p>\n
and at times<\/p>\n
parts of it blew away<\/p>\n
to be patched in a new way<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
and the things\u2026<\/p>\n
stories in everything<\/p>\n
a lot of stuff much more than stuff<\/p>\n
but no one else would ever know<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
There\u2019s plastic fruit in a glass container<\/p>\n
in the entry to our house that was my mother\u2019s<\/p>\n
and she\u2019s who I see when I look at it<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
There is art and clothes and plants<\/p>\n
in which we each see the other<\/p>\n
that richly fills our space<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
A house, garden and life<\/p>\n
that are pieces of straw<\/p>\n
uniquely put together<\/p>\n
in such a way that<\/p>\n
only the two of us<\/p>\n
could ever<\/p>\n
have done.<\/p>\n
