{"id":131664,"date":"2023-09-02T14:19:08","date_gmt":"2023-09-02T18:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=131664"},"modified":"2023-09-02T14:19:08","modified_gmt":"2023-09-02T18:19:08","slug":"hour-6-the-earths-edge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2023\/09\/hour-6-the-earths-edge\/","title":{"rendered":"Hour 6 &#8211; The Earth&#8217;s Edge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I keep walking.<\/p>\n<p>It has been years but I couldn\u2019t tell you the exact span of time.<\/p>\n<p>I have lost track.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The landscape changes.<\/p>\n<p>It remains very much familiar to me with its colors, shapes, and vegetation.<\/p>\n<p>And yet foreign.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I keep walking.<\/p>\n<p>This path I am on will continue until either I reach the edge or my starting point.<\/p>\n<p>I am unsure which it will be.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The horizon widens.<\/p>\n<p>The heavens seem closer now than they were when I began.<\/p>\n<p>I do not know why.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The landscape disappears.<\/p>\n<p>I cannot see the land ahead; it seems to fade into the sky this time.<\/p>\n<p>This is new.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I see the end.<\/p>\n<p>I have discovered the edge of the earth and it is wonderous.<\/p>\n<p>Terror fills me.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The vast expanse of sky.<\/p>\n<p>It turns my fear into awe as I move slowly toward the edge.<\/p>\n<p>I must see what is below.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I drop to a crawl.<\/p>\n<p>I am too afraid to continue walking and being closer to the earth gives me a sense of security.<\/p>\n<p>My hands curve over the edge.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I sink to my belly.<\/p>\n<p>I scoot forward to peer cautiously over despite the vibrations of terror that shoot through me.<\/p>\n<p>I lay still.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I cast my eyes downward.<\/p>\n<p>And I am overwhelmed by the beauty that I see continuing without end both above and below.<\/p>\n<p>I take a deep breath.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I exhale.<\/p>\n<p>Exhilaration fills me and I push my body forward until I am surrounded by blue expanse.<\/p>\n<p>I am falling.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I keep walking.
