The glass and the tool to soften it both start as sand<\/strong><\/p>\n

I can\u2019t quite identify all that I gained with him<\/span><\/p>\n

but I do know that he took my spine as I left\u2013<\/span><\/p>\n

let me wilt for a while<\/span><\/p>\n

until I found a way to reconstruct it\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

from shattered bottles and memory,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

vertebrae of sharp edges<\/span><\/p>\n

that kept tearing at the skin<\/span><\/p>\n

of anyone who dared lay their hand<\/span><\/p>\n

in the small of my back.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s funny how our bodies fight\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

even the kindest<\/span><\/p>\n

in the name of self-mercy.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Tonight, when I enter my room<\/span><\/p>\n

and find abundance in my own arms<\/span><\/p>\n

I will still wonder\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

at the attainability of softness.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have the tools<\/span><\/p>\n

but cannot reach\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

that one spot on my back.<\/span><\/p>\n

I will wait.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For someone to turn their hands\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

to sandpaper and damp cloths.<\/span><\/p>\n

For someone willing to\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
