I hated Junie B Jones\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The outspoken\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

frazzle haired\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Loud speaking star<\/span><\/p>\n

Of my childhood chapter books\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Running through pages with her shoes untied\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Still, I read every single word<\/span><\/p>\n

Drank the letters like water<\/span><\/p>\n

And wondered why they boiled within me\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Had not yet learned hate to actually be jealousy to actually be a guide\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For the parts of ourselves we have not yet liberated\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I hope my child\u2019s first word is No.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

so they get lots of practice\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That their lips learn the shape of a one word sentence\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And their mind the difference between meanness\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And the unapologetic\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I hope they let their laces run free\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As well as their frizzed follicles\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I wish them deep inhales\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To fill their lungs\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To be selfish with the air\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So they can shout all the longer\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shout their desires\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And the laws of their own land\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A little one\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Who takes up space\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And a universe who sees\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
