When \u201cMargaritaville\u201d<\/p>\n

comes on the radio,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I always think of<\/p>\n

American tourists<\/p>\n

in towns like Ixtapa<\/p>\n

and Mazatl\u00e1n,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

whooping it up<\/p>\n

at Senor Frog\u2019s,<\/p>\n

with buckets of iced Coronas<\/p>\n

and peel-your-own shrimp.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Clusters of Parrotheads<\/p>\n

in gaudy shirts, adorned<\/p>\n

with tequila bottles<\/p>\n

and palm trees,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

swaying in their<\/p>\n

rented beach hammocks,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

signaling their waiter<\/p>\n

for a double shot,<\/p>\n

discussing stock portfolios<\/p>\n

in jocular tones.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Six shots later,<\/p>\n

they run towards the water,<\/p>\n

pale legs flashing<\/p>\n

in the winter sun.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Everyone has lost a lover,<\/p>\n

everyone wants to<\/p>\n

blame someone else,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and nobody knows<\/p>\n

where they put that<\/p>\n

goddamn saltshaker.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Perhaps they<\/p>\n

left it at home,<\/p>\n

with the rest<\/p>\n

of their baggage.<\/p>\n
