I could’ve been anyone
\nin any place, in any time, in any body
\nbut I was born into this one
\nI was born as “this” and I’ve spent years
\ntrying to make peace with that<\/p>\n
I’ve had delicious highs and terrifying lows
\nI’ve lost people that I loved
\nand never stopped loving them
\nsome are still walking around out there
\nsome aren’t<\/p>\n
I think this is the closest I’ve ever been
\nto being happy and enjoying that I’m alive
\neven if I’m still not sure
\nwhat I want out of life
\nor who I am trying to be<\/p>\n
sometimes I want to be different
\nbut I’m not sure what I’d change about myself (even if I could)
\nI have moments of thinking that I’d want
\nsomeone else’s face or life or body
\nbut then I see that they carry their own damage<\/p>\n

\nhow to overlook our differences and connect in spite of them
\nmaybe I’m stuck up, maybe I’m not the “sane” one
\nI think that I am intelligent and reasonable
\nof course, I may be delusional<\/p>\n
\nand beautiful and captivating
\nthe way we think of old hollywood movie stars and celebrities
\nI know deep down that can’t be true
\nthat there’s nothing special or perfect about me<\/p>\n
\nthat I’ve ever met and gotten to know
\nI made the choice to see them as special and perfect
\nbecause I loved them with their flaws
\nI don’t know if I can decide that for myself<\/p>\n
\nmaybe I’m allowed to be special
\nmaybe I could be perfect
\njust existing as “this”
