She knew how the game was played<\/p>\n
And the role she would play in it.<\/p>\n
She was a competitor not to be overlooked<\/p>\n
Even on the days when her fiercest opponent<\/p>\n
Would beat her down.<\/p>\n
Her strength and confidence were soothing<\/p>\n
To those of us questioning what we knew to be.<\/p>\n
She would be called up to the big league.<\/p>\n
For they had scouted her since 2021.<\/p>\n
Her journeys with the team took her away from home.<\/p>\n
But she would always return with stories of winning hits<\/p>\n
Great times with teammates, even a broken nose.<\/p>\n
Her last game here would not disappoint<\/p>\n
As she hit the game winning RBI<\/p>\n
Clinching the National Championship.<\/p>\n
But with all the cheers and “way-to-go’s”<\/p>\n
Came the realization<\/p>\n
The big league wanted her, it was her time.<\/p>\n
And she left us.<\/p>\n
It’s been over five months.<\/p>\n
We have our memories of games and gatherings,<\/p>\n
The warmth in our hearts for knowing her,<\/p>\n
And calling her our friend.<\/p>\n
