i love how beet stains<\/span><\/p>\n

a dark pink\/purple hue<\/span><\/p>\n

the color i would imagine blood to be<\/span><\/p>\n

if i didn\u2019t know it was blue<\/span><\/p>\n

underneath this jacket of skin\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

until a tremor of oxygen turns it<\/span><\/p>\n

a dark rust red<\/span><\/p>\n

the body a bayou\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

an interdependent ecosystem\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

a moist landscape<\/span><\/p>\n

best traversed when familiar or by guide<\/span><\/p>\n

we are not taught much\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

about our bayous<\/span><\/p>\n

i mean bodies<\/span><\/p>\n

not about our elbows<\/span><\/p>\n

or tastebuds or knuckles or gray matter<\/span><\/p>\n

for that matter\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

the lightbulbs of neural synapses\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

cinnamon lights up my mouth<\/span><\/p>\n

a heat that travels from tongue to tip of toe\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

unfamiliar mechanics\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

as unfamiliar as a bucket list made<\/span><\/p>\n

with enough time to fulfill it<\/span><\/p>\n

there is an elk that my grandma watches<\/span><\/p>\n

from her window she can see it across the road<\/span><\/p>\n

or maybe it\u2019s a deer<\/span><\/p>\n

hard to tell\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
