{"id":136397,"date":"2023-09-02T19:59:47","date_gmt":"2023-09-02T23:59:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=136397"},"modified":"2023-09-04T10:36:14","modified_gmt":"2023-09-04T14:36:14","slug":"small-stones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2023\/09\/small-stones\/","title":{"rendered":"Tiniest stones (Prompt 11)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s just an old quart Mason Jar<br \/>\ntwo-thirds filled with sand <\/p>\n<p>sitting in the corner, small shelf<br \/>\njust above my desk <\/p>\n<p>as nondescript as artifacts go<br \/>\nprominent display<\/p>\n<p>typical jar, ordinary sand, hand<br \/>\nscooped by me &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>my hand, from shallow bottom<br \/>\nHorseshoe Lake<\/p>\n<p>grandparents home, my summer<br \/>\noasis &#8211; though<\/p>\n<p>over twenty years had passed<br \/>\ncurrent owner<\/p>\n<p>allowed beach access, I had a bag<br \/>\nand an impulse<\/p>\n<p>My stop spontaneous, my actions<br \/>\ndeliberate<\/p>\n<p>In glancing at that jar so much comes<br \/>\nback to me<\/p>\n<p>lapping waves on the beach, walking<br \/>\nbarefoot on same<\/p>\n<p>summer days have lasted a lifetime<br \/>\namazing what sand<\/p>\n<p>thousands of granular bits of rock<br \/>\nmost common <\/p>\n<p>element on earth, most uncommon<br \/>\ntouchstones<\/p>\n<p>Mine alone.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Mark L.
