I am moving.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

My two-bedroom unit is no longer mine. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Walk in closet, big coat closet, two bedroom closets\u2014and pantry. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Gone.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I will have one bedroom.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

One closet.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kitchen cabinets enough\u2014<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

if I part with all I hold dear:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Grandma\u2019s Depression Glass.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Family photos, Bible, albums.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A presentation flag of remembrance of a dear friend.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Baking pans and mixer and cookie cutters.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Genealogy research going back to the 1300s.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Memories from when my children were small. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

History books. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Poetry books. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Old notebooks with my scrawl of words and gardens.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Garden tools and books.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Christmas treasures that make December festive.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And then\u2014maybe\u2014I can fit the necessities,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

flashlights and can openers, toasters, and rainboots, mops and snow shovels<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

into lifeless chasms\u2014great gaping repositories.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But they bring no joy, no life, no hours of good thoughts.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

My closets are depositories of what makes life good.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And soon, they will not.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
