{"id":136810,"date":"2023-09-02T20:29:59","date_gmt":"2023-09-03T00:29:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=136810"},"modified":"2023-09-02T20:29:59","modified_gmt":"2023-09-03T00:29:59","slug":"monster-2023poetrymarathon-prompthour12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2023\/09\/monster-2023poetrymarathon-prompthour12\/","title":{"rendered":"monster #2023poetrymarathon #prompthour12"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Bolero does something to me<br \/>\nwhen it plays I am un-Ravelled<br \/>\nresting my head<br \/>\nupon my father\u2019s knee<br \/>\nsoothed and calmed<br \/>\nat peace with the monster<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">that lives in me.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The lilting tune,<br \/>\nthe rustle of drums<br \/>\nedge this old\u00a0heart<br \/>\nlike that striped shirt<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">in whites and blues<br \/>\nburied deep within my closet.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">I hid the monster<br \/>\ninside my closet<br \/>\nyet everywhere I\u00a0turn, I feel<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">the heat of rotting teeth<br \/>\nand wild eyes following me.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Every heart\u2026 has a monster<br \/>\nwaiting to pounce<br \/>\nwaiting to reach out,<br \/>\nthe door creaks open<br \/>\njust a little wider.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">You can lock the closet, <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">throw away the key<br \/>\nthe monster still returns <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">in a flourish of trumpets <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">or the whisper of kettle drums <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">as Bolero<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">washes over me. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bolero does something to me when it plays I am un-Ravelled resting my head upon my father\u2019s knee soothed and calmed at peace with the monster that lives in me.
