{"id":136914,"date":"2023-09-02T20:41:59","date_gmt":"2023-09-03T00:41:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=136914"},"modified":"2023-09-02T20:41:59","modified_gmt":"2023-09-03T00:41:59","slug":"an-old-home-hour-twelve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2023\/09\/an-old-home-hour-twelve\/","title":{"rendered":"An Old Home, Hour Twelve"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Old Home<\/p>\n<p>By American standards our home is old,<br \/>\ncreated from old growth forests of oak and poplar<br \/>\non site one hundred and seven years ago,<br \/>\nwhile the war to end all wars raged on foreign shores.<\/p>\n<p>Its wooden floors slope gently downhill,<br \/>\nspiderweb cracks trace filaments in plaster,<br \/>\nno door or window settles plumb into its casing,<br \/>\nand not a single closet exists.<\/p>\n<p>Nooks, crannies, dormers, and cupboards in eaves abound,<br \/>\nthe architectural precursors for closets in homes of later years<br \/>\nexist in all corners, on every level, charming spaces<br \/>\nand reading places are everywhere, but not one closet.<\/p>\n<p>We did not bend it to our will, rather it changed us.<br \/>\nWardrobes and attics, outbuildings and sheds,<br \/>\ncrawl spaces became our norm.
