{"id":137251,"date":"2023-09-02T21:35:44","date_gmt":"2023-09-03T01:35:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=137251"},"modified":"2023-09-02T21:48:14","modified_gmt":"2023-09-03T01:48:14","slug":"cold-blooded-heart-warmers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2023\/09\/cold-blooded-heart-warmers\/","title":{"rendered":"Cold-Blooded Heart Warmers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(or, <em>The Menagerie pt. 3<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It started with a cornsnake<\/p>\n<p>named for a park back in Ashland<\/p>\n<p>who escaped his collapsed tank and<\/p>\n<p>vanished into the unknown.<\/p>\n<p>Quite a few nights were spent lining the kitchen walls with flour<\/p>\n<p>In hopes of finding a trace of Lythian,<\/p>\n<p>Though no hint of him dead or living ever surfaced<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The reptile life nabbed me quickly,<\/p>\n<p>One moment pondering the archaic looking creature once labeled extinct<\/p>\n<p>The next, I\u2019m rearranging tank space with what little I have to spare.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cornsnake, crestie, and python to start,<\/p>\n<p>And then the dragons: the desert oranges my father brough home,<\/p>\n<p>And the water lizard, Orchid green and just as fragile from the home<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019d been neglected at beforehand.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The leos top the reptiles off, with Blaze playing Mama hen;<\/p>\n<p>She and Sundew spend their days piled atop each other,<\/p>\n<p>In patient wait for little Ruby White to get large enough to join them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of which, does anyone have any large tanks available?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999\"><em>(Hour 13)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(or, The Menagerie pt. 3) &nbsp; It started with a cornsnake named for a park back in Ashland who escaped his collapsed tank and vanished into the unknown.
