Doubt swings\u00a0his ax in midair<\/p>\n
I duck just in time<\/p>\n
Swings again and I feel my head<\/p>\n
Roll across the room<\/p>\n
I chase it down and hold it tight<\/p>\n
I run<\/p>\n
But Doubt is close behind<\/p>\n
Laughing maniacally<\/p>\n
“You will never do this”<\/p>\n
He says<\/p>\n
” Who do you think you are?”<\/p>\n
I want to doubt him but he is\u00a0Doubt<\/p>\n
It’s hard to do<\/p>\n
He is strong<\/p>\n
He makes the rules<\/p>\n
I try to break them<\/p>\n
But I fail miserably<\/p>\n
I am Doubt’s greatest student<\/p>\n
I learned well and he knows my soft spots<\/p>\n
I churn out waves of affirmations<\/p>\n
But he cackles back<\/p>\n
“You will fail!”<\/p>\n
I choose not to believe him<\/p>\n
And I run harder and faster<\/p>\n
I trip over an insult<\/p>\n
My head falls from my arms<\/p>\n
Rolling faster and faster<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He stops, picks it up and\u00a0hands it to me<\/p>\n
“You can have your head<\/p>\n
But know I am inside<\/p>\n
Always inside”<\/p>\n
He walks away<\/p>\n
I know he is right<\/p>\n
I put my head back on, lower it in shame<\/p>\n
