{"id":140093,"date":"2023-09-03T02:21:27","date_gmt":"2023-09-03T06:21:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=140093"},"modified":"2023-09-03T02:21:27","modified_gmt":"2023-09-03T06:21:27","slug":"the-crow-2023poetrymarathon-prompthour18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2023\/09\/the-crow-2023poetrymarathon-prompthour18\/","title":{"rendered":"The crow #2023poetrymarathon #prompthour18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">I used to hate crows, scavengers of the earth<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">squawking, snatching, swamping the skies<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">when one died, shot by that stray bullet<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">frightening us into the house.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">But then they said that crows were good<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">that when they eat the food<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">offered to the dead it is as though<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">the dead have returned.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Since then I feed the crow sometimes,<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">I do not turn away, irritated,<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">when it pecks at my window,<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">cawing through the glass.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Have you returned then?<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Do you see the world through its squawk?<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Or is that just wishful thinking<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">and that crow merely a sentient of the dark?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-140019\" src=\"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/craig-manners-1_-x1Ij8DYI-unsplash-757x1024-1-222x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"222\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/craig-manners-1_-x1Ij8DYI-unsplash-757x1024-1-222x300.jpg 222w, https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/craig-manners-1_-x1Ij8DYI-unsplash-757x1024-1.jpg 757w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 222px) 100vw, 222px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I used to hate crows, scavengers of the earth squawking, snatching, swamping the skies when one died, shot by that stray bullet frightening us into the house.
