Poem 18<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px\">Fireghosts<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px\">They will stay. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">Their smoke will scent <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">freshly painted buildings <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">their footprints will sink <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">into the sand <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">where no one else has been<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">their sighs will sing out at sunset. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px\">They will gather under her. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">They gather there now <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">under and on her.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">They will tell the story <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">of fire and destruction <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">to reef fish and minah birds <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">who have yet to be born <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">and to tourists <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">who will soon return.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px\">Their voices will be everywhere<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">unmistakable and clear.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">They will be woven <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">into the kapa <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 22px\">of new Lahainatown.<\/span><!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_230902_202143_440.sdocx--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>8pm.
