(My picture was taken after dark of my black cat curled up on my husband&#8217;s side of the bed while he was out of town.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He sounded surface-calm on the phone as he walked down the stairs,<br \/>\nbut something in his voice said, &#8220;All is not well.&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd as he continued to speak with his father<br \/>\nin that deceptively placid tone, he started<br \/>\nshoving random articles of clothing into a<br \/>\nsmall travel bag.<\/p>\n<p>That unplanned trip stretched from a couple of days<br \/>\ninto a couple of weeks and wrapped around<br \/>\na bevy of unexpected and largely unwelcome<br \/>\nplot twists, the majority of them<br \/>\nmedical in nature.<\/p>\n<p>Late one night, preparing for sleep,<br \/>\nI sent him a message, as I was<br \/>\nwont to do. But this one<br \/>\nspurred a response.<br \/>\n&#8220;The cat has stolen your spot<br \/>\non the bed,&#8221; I playfully captioned<br \/>\na photo of our Ninja Kitty.<br \/>\n&#8220;Tell her it&#8217;s mine,&#8221;<br \/>\nhe replied.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Look on your phone and find the 10th non selfie picture and use that as your prompt.
