I remember it being huge<\/p>\n

With a sloping roof<\/p>\n

And enough space for ten people<\/p>\n

Maybe more<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Five feet off the ground<\/p>\n

Twice if you climbed onto the roof<\/p>\n

(An act of bravery seldom achieved)<\/p>\n

The moss was slippery<\/p>\n

So one must hang on branches<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The walls were colored with chalk<\/p>\n

And then with permanent marker<\/p>\n

Names written<\/p>\n

Jokes recorded<\/p>\n

Pictures drawn<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When we left<\/p>\n

We wrote a letter<\/p>\n

To take care of the treehouse<\/p>\n

And visit it frequently<\/p>\n

So it\u2019s never alone<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One day it will rot away<\/p>\n

We all do, after a while<\/p>\n

But with me<\/p>\n

It was perfect and sturdy<\/p>\n

Welcoming and warm<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A bookend to my childhood<\/p>\n

I live in a memory<\/p>\n

Of brushing away the leaves<\/p>\n

On the first day of sun<\/p>\n

And sitting on the planks<\/p>\n
