It missed<br \/>\nthe sunshine of its little back<br \/>\nroom, and even its vellum<br \/>\nand ink. The canary did not,<br \/>\ncould not, sing down there,<br \/>\nand it was called a fluke; and<br \/>\nit was told that it was bad; and<br \/>\nit returned to suffocating itself<br \/>\non poetry. When the gentle hands<br \/>\nnext came, it did not trust them,<br \/>\nso was it hurt.
