{"id":142324,"date":"2023-09-03T06:50:03","date_gmt":"2023-09-03T10:50:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=142324"},"modified":"2023-09-03T06:50:03","modified_gmt":"2023-09-03T10:50:03","slug":"lost-art-of-legible-handwriting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2023\/09\/lost-art-of-legible-handwriting\/","title":{"rendered":"Lost Art of Legible Handwriting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At some point in my day-to-day writing, it appears<br \/>\nI lost my cursive muscle.<br \/>\nMy handwriting had morphed into<br \/>\na poor man&#8217;s Comic Sans with my own<br \/>\nspin being little &#8220;connectors,&#8221;<br \/>\na pretense to cursive, I suppose,<br \/>\nwithout any real effort to be <em>actual <\/em>cursive.<\/p>\n<p>My shame was private<br \/>\nuntil now.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m in solitary cursive rehab,<br \/>\nand the results are painful.<br \/>\nTo the eye, and to the memory<br \/>\nof my once effortless cursive.<\/p>\n<p>Someone told me &#8211; and I hope this person<br \/>\nwas wrong &#8211; that cursive is no longer<br \/>\nbeing taught in school.<\/p>\n<p>At the risk of sounding creaky,<br \/>\npenmanship isn&#8217;t an old fashioned thing<br \/>\nto be discarded because we can text one another.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a personal expression. To write a lovely letter<br \/>\nin distinctive handwriting is to honor the art of correspondence,<br \/>\nand, hopefully, the person with whom we&#8217;re corresponding. <\/p>\n<p>And, where would the study of graphology be without<br \/>\nhandwriting? What do I want my handwriting to say about me?<br \/>\nThat I&#8217;m resilient, and, if I keep practicing, elegant in my scrawl.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At some point in my day-to-day writing, it appears I lost my cursive muscle.
