{"id":142369,"date":"2023-09-03T06:32:20","date_gmt":"2023-09-03T10:32:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=142369"},"modified":"2023-09-03T06:32:20","modified_gmt":"2023-09-03T10:32:20","slug":"and-the-women-gathered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2023\/09\/and-the-women-gathered\/","title":{"rendered":"And The Women Gathered"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>60 years ago, they Marched on Washington<\/p>\n<p>From the Carolinas, Washington state, the West Coast, Texas, the Midwest and<\/p>\n<p>of course the Deep South<\/p>\n<p>It was over 250,000 strong over all generations<\/p>\n<p>Who can forget the vision of power across the Lincoln Memorial?<\/p>\n<p>Who can forget the speeches of the voices of power?<\/p>\n<p>Who can forget the vision of the powerful Black men covering the stage?<\/p>\n<p>Who can forget one of the most powerful orations ever delivered?<\/p>\n<p>And who can forget the women\u2026.?<\/p>\n<p>Wait, there was a scarcity of women \u00a0visible that day<\/p>\n<p>Yet it was a quiet known fact that the women were the forces<\/p>\n<p>behind this momentous day<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately misogyny, sexism, chauvinism \u00a0was a part of our brothers reach<\/p>\n<p>Even as they fought against racism<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So on the 60<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of this fateful event<\/p>\n<p>The Women gathered to read\u00a0 this powerful speech and share their modern day commentary<\/p>\n<p>Via Zoom<\/p>\n<p>This too was but \u00a0another powerful oration by a multigenerational cadre of sisters<\/p>\n<p>It was empowering and fulfilling<\/p>\n<p>Although not sufficiently present \u00a060 years ago<\/p>\n<p>The women will continue to gather<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; 60 years ago, they Marched on Washington From the Carolinas, Washington state, the West Coast, Texas, the Midwest and of course the Deep South It was over 250,000 strong over all generations Who can forget the vision of power across the Lincoln Memorial?
