{"id":143889,"date":"2023-09-03T08:51:23","date_gmt":"2023-09-03T12:51:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=143889"},"modified":"2023-09-03T08:51:23","modified_gmt":"2023-09-03T12:51:23","slug":"hour-24-in-which-i-replace-the-word-hopes-with-the-word-feet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2023\/09\/hour-24-in-which-i-replace-the-word-hopes-with-the-word-feet\/","title":{"rendered":"Hour 24 &#8211; In which I replace the word \u201chopes\u201d with the word \u201cfeet\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In which I replace the word \u201chopes\u201d with the word \u201cfeet\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>after Nico Wilkinson<\/em><\/p>\n<p>My feet move me toward a future I am quite unsure of.<br \/>\nBut while I ask so much of my feet,<br \/>\nwith all these dreams of forward motion,<br \/>\nthey cannot answer.<br \/>\nSometimes, though, simply having feet is<br \/>\nthe best answer you can ask for.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, I move at more of a crawl.<br \/>\nMy feet, forgotten somewhere behind me,<br \/>\ncannot do the work I\u2019ve asked of them.<br \/>\nI must drag myself back to the start,<br \/>\nfind my feet again, wipe away the grime<br \/>\nand stand again, bolstered by renewed foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Even so, my feet are complicated things.<br \/>\nTurning numb, stinging, collapsing at their joinings,<br \/>\nOccasionally, I turn my hatred toward them,<br \/>\nwonder at their use. All before I remember<br \/>\nthere is cruelty in forcing anything<br \/>\nto act solely at my will.<\/p>\n<p>So, I will be gentle to my feet now,<br \/>\ncare for them, give them room to breathe,<br \/>\naccommodate the way they swell<br \/>\non days I believe in them more fiercely.<br \/>\nForgive them for being as unpredictable<br \/>\nas this body they are bound to.<\/p>\n<p>I think there is a commonality<br \/>\nin how we treat our feet and ourselves,<br \/>\nhow we treat that which is foundational.<br \/>\nEven when we find our feet<br \/>\ncannot be used in the way we wish<br \/>\nshould we not answer with grace?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In which I replace the word \u201chopes\u201d with the word \u201cfeet\u201d after Nico Wilkinson My feet move me toward a future I am quite unsure of.
