{"id":17698,"date":"2016-08-13T09:23:17","date_gmt":"2016-08-13T13:23:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=17698"},"modified":"2016-08-13T09:23:17","modified_gmt":"2016-08-13T13:23:17","slug":"the-end-of-the-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2016\/08\/the-end-of-the-book\/","title":{"rendered":"The End of the Book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I teach kids to read<br \/>\nI want them to love words<br \/>\n   and stories<br \/>\n   and books<br \/>\nlike I do.<\/p>\n<p>That means I mostly read<br \/>\n   kids&#8217; books, appreciate<br \/>\n   the subtle sophistication<br \/>\n   of children&#8217;s lit,<br \/>\n   of children.<\/p>\n<p>But&#8230;I just slogged through<br \/>\n   365 pages<br \/>\n   of adult action adventure.<\/p>\n<p>Kids won&#8217;t put up with rambling,<br \/>\nwith details that don&#8217;t matter.<\/p>\n<p>But&#8230;I read it.<br \/>\n   I liked it enough to finish.<br \/>\n   And the last two pages<br \/>\n   were fabulous, the best two pages<br \/>\n   in the book.<br \/>\n   It was about hope.<br \/>\n   It was about goodness.<br \/>\n   It was worth it.<\/p>\n<p>But&#8230;it&#8217;s back to kids&#8217; books for me,<br \/>\n   at least for a while.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I teach kids to read I want them to love words and stories and books like I do.
