{"id":1778,"date":"2014-08-23T12:21:48","date_gmt":"2014-08-23T16:21:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=1778"},"modified":"2014-08-23T12:21:48","modified_gmt":"2014-08-23T16:21:48","slug":"mother-bare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2014\/08\/mother-bare\/","title":{"rendered":"Mother Bare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You&#8217;ve seen me without my face,<\/p>\n<p>Without my lipstick and my mistakes,<\/p>\n<p>Blemish rests upon these bones,<\/p>\n<p>Wearing nothingness:<\/p>\n<p>I relish upon my throne.<\/p>\n<p>You accept my get-up,<\/p>\n<p>But would much rather do without it,<\/p>\n<p>Experiencing my shield,<\/p>\n<p>The one of foundation and powder.<\/p>\n<p>Clear judgment exudes through,<\/p>\n<p>What would I do without them?<\/p>\n<p>Without you?<\/p>\n<p>I could not stand the sight of my own face,<\/p>\n<p>Without wearing my shield,<\/p>\n<p>I could not amount to the myriad of beauty I desired.<\/p>\n<p>You are my make-up,<\/p>\n<p>Your words I wear upon my skin,<\/p>\n<p>Your truth complements the beauty within.<\/p>\n<p>How you treasure the way my eyes gleam:<\/p>\n<p>No shadow to hide them from the sun,<\/p>\n<p>How my lips pout candidly like candied caramel apple slices:<\/p>\n<p>Wearing nothing for fun.<\/p>\n<p>You love the way I look,<\/p>\n<p>You love me natural and nude.<\/p>\n<p>To whom can I be compared: &#8220;No one.&#8221; You soothe.<\/p>\n<p>I fall prey to your elixir,<\/p>\n<p>This potion: your sweet speech,<\/p>\n<p>Compliments: cunning, leaving me in complacency.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately leave me feeling un-kissed of your approval until tomorrow&#8217;s morn,<\/p>\n<p>Seeing something out of place upon my face: wearing my favorite shade of scorn.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s something I feel you see,<\/p>\n<p>Something I kvetch over endlessly,<\/p>\n<p>Embarrassed to show me,<\/p>\n<p>But, bare is what you want me to be.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You&#8217;ve seen me without my face, Without my lipstick and my mistakes, Blemish rests upon these bones, Wearing nothingness: I relish upon my throne.
