I Forget Where We Were<\/strong><\/p>\n

But I remember sneaking Camels from your mom\u2019s purse<\/p>\n

Grabbing matches from the front seat of my brother\u2019s car<\/p>\n

Thinking we were so cool<\/p>\n

Sneaking off somewhere<\/p>\n

I forget where<\/p>\n

I remember that spark of the match<\/p>\n

The sweet smell of sulfur<\/p>\n

As I struck the match<\/p>\n

The thrilling burn<\/p>\n

On the tip of my finger and thumb<\/p>\n

And then sucking in the filterless fiend<\/p>\n

As you held the match<\/p>\n

I remember the fire torching my insides<\/p>\n

And not wanting to cough<\/p>\n

Not wanting to spit out the avalanche<\/p>\n

of nicotine and tar.<\/p>\n

I forget where we were<\/p>\n

But I remember feeling dizzy<\/p>\n

You were so much cooler<\/p>\n

Holding in the smoke like a pro<\/p>\n

And blowing it out in rings<\/p>\n

Standing with one hand on your hip<\/p>\n

You didn\u2019t cough<\/p>\n

Or gag<\/p>\n

Or make an icky face<\/p>\n

You weren\u2019t scared of getting caught.<\/p>\n

I was all of those things.<\/p>\n

I forgot where we were,<\/p>\n

But I won\u2019t forget that<\/p>\n

you<\/p>\n

were<\/p>\n

my<\/p>\n

friend.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t miss Camels,<\/p>\n
