{"id":19015,"date":"2016-08-13T11:22:11","date_gmt":"2016-08-13T15:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=19015"},"modified":"2016-08-13T11:22:30","modified_gmt":"2016-08-13T15:22:30","slug":"9am-hour-three-prompt-before-darkness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2016\/08\/9am-hour-three-prompt-before-darkness\/","title":{"rendered":"9am &#8211; Hour three prompt, Before Darkness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Before Darkness<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Before darkness, there is hope<\/p>\n<p>As humans cling to the dying of the light<\/p>\n<p>Grasping, as if we may yet<\/p>\n<p>Deny it the chance to fade.<\/p>\n<p>Looking back, never forward,<\/p>\n<p>To the prospect of despair.<\/p>\n<p>We do not brace,<\/p>\n<p>But deny, deny, deny<\/p>\n<p>Our American-Dream worldview<\/p>\n<p>Has not prepared us for this.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But before the darkness comes, look it in the face<\/p>\n<p>But be careful, else<\/p>\n<p>It shall fill you up completely<\/p>\n<p>And it will be all you see or taste or know or feel.<\/p>\n<p>Before darkness comes, look it in the face,<\/p>\n<p>Through the face to the heart,<\/p>\n<p>And see the angels hidden inside it.<\/p>\n<p>Angels of comfort, of peace,<\/p>\n<p>Ready to hold you in your darkest hour,<\/p>\n<p>Waiting on orders to send them when needed most:<\/p>\n<p>Humanity&#8217;s secret defence<\/p>\n<p>Against the ever-looming darkness.<\/p>\n<p>Secret from us, not from the bringers of the dark.<\/p>\n<p>We cannot know them if we<\/p>\n<p>Deny, deny, deny,<\/p>\n<p>Despair, despair, despair.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Before darkness,<\/p>\n<p>Abandon all hope in yourself, humanity,<\/p>\n<p>That hope which keeps you grasping the dying light,<\/p>\n<p>Denying it the chance to fade,<\/p>\n<p>Looking back, never forward,<\/p>\n<p>To the prospect of despair.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, look forward,<\/p>\n<p>See the prospect of despair,<\/p>\n<p>And alongside it\u00a0the truth of angels,<\/p>\n<p>That there is a hope\u00a0greater than you ever knew,<\/p>\n<p>The divine intervention,<\/p>\n<p>The dawn at the end of the dark night.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Before Darkness Before darkness, there is hope As humans cling to the dying of the light Grasping, as if we may yet Deny it the chance to fade.
