At the Game Farm,<\/p>\n
a young deer<\/p>\n
grabbed hold<\/p>\n
of my mom\u2019s skirt<\/p>\n
and worried it<\/p>\n
with her teeth,<\/p>\n
thinking my mom<\/p>\n
some large print-embossed<\/p>\n
flower.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Forty years later,<\/p>\n
after she died,<\/p>\n
two male deer<\/p>\n
crashed into our yard<\/p>\n
in autumn rutting season.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Then, in May,<\/p>\n
a fawn<\/p>\n
tiptoed under<\/p>\n
the neighbor\u2019s hedge<\/p>\n
and crossed<\/p>\n
over a fallen tree.<\/p>\n
She stood,<\/p>\n
fearless,<\/p>\n
until we inched<\/p>\n
the camera out.<\/p>\n
