One day, I saw my father’s mother<\/p>\n
in the mirror,<\/p>\n
looking back at me.<\/p>\n
Her face the same as the<\/p>\n
one I had seen<\/p>\n
in pictures, but had<\/p>\n
never seen or touched,<\/p>\n
whose voice I had never heard.<\/p>\n
Another day I saw my mother’s mother<\/p>\n
in my hands<\/p>\n
as I prepared a meal.<\/p>\n
The same blue veins<\/p>\n
and fingers<\/p>\n
that I remembered holding my<\/p>\n
little girl hands<\/p>\n
as she told me stories<\/p>\n
and held buttercups<\/p>\n
under my chin.<\/p>\n
This is how the love<\/p>\n
of those we carry<\/p>\n
in our hearts<\/p>\n
never dies…<\/p>\n
We see them<\/p>\n
in the mirror,<\/p>\n
in our actions,<\/p>\n
a smile we give,<\/p>\n
a gentle touch to another,<\/p>\n
and they come back to us<\/p>\n
as if they never left,<\/p>\n
but were waiting for us<\/p>\n
to notice them again.<\/p>\n
