Like a dream,<\/p>\n
I walk through frost-bitten<\/p>\n
Headstones.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Winter plagues<\/p>\n
With cold and scarcity.<\/p>\n
Rumors of civil war rustle.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
At a crypt, now,<\/p>\n
Midnight on a full moon<\/p>\n
Lavender glow of magic<\/p>\n
From the palm of my left hand<\/p>\n
Right palm branded, burns<\/p>\n
It\u2019s half-working curse.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It cannot stop me.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Inside, the smell of flesh<\/p>\n
Rotting<\/p>\n
Dust settled into thick sheets.<\/p>\n
A fresh body with a ticking watch<\/p>\n
Gold coins in a pocket –<\/p>\n
Leave a few for the ferryman<\/p>\n
And go.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Loot in hand,<\/p>\n
The wife appears, moans<\/p>\n
Like a banshee when she sees me,<\/p>\n
Thinks I\u2019m a ghost or\u00a0a robber.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m both.<\/p>\n
